The Punjab Education Department has ordered all public and private schools to stop summer camp activities as part of emergency measures to protect students from the ongoing heatwave. The decision comes as temperatures continue to remain dangerously high across many districts of the province.
According to the department, schools were only permitted to conduct summer camps for a limited period. With the latest directive now in effect, all educational institutions must suspend summer camps until further instructions are issued.

Officials have made it clear that student safety and health remain the government’s top priority. High temperatures increase the risk of heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heatstroke, especially among young children participating in outdoor or classroom activities without adequate cooling.
The Education Department has warned that strict action will be taken against schools that ignore the order. Institutions found operating summer camps in violation of the directive may face heavy fines, legal action, and even suspension or cancellation of their registration under the relevant education regulations.
District Education Authorities have been instructed to immediately inform all schools about the latest notification. Inspection teams will carry out surprise visits to ensure educational institutions are fully complying with the government’s instructions.
School administrations have also been advised to follow all provincial safety guidelines issued during the heatwave and avoid organizing any activity that could expose students to extreme weather conditions.
Health experts recommend that children remain well-hydrated, avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, wear light-colored clothing, and stay in cool, well-ventilated environments whenever possible.

Parents have welcomed the government’s decision, saying it will help reduce health risks for children during the intense summer weather. Many have encouraged students to use their holidays productively by completing holiday assignments, reading books, and participating in indoor educational activities.
The Punjab government has reiterated that schools are expected to fully comply with the latest instructions. Authorities said they will continue monitoring weather conditions and issue further updates if additional measures become necessary to ensure the safety of students and school staff.
