The Sindh government has decided to introduce a facial recognition attendance system across the Education Department in a major step aimed at improving transparency, monitoring staff attendance, and reducing absenteeism in public schools.
Officials said the new digital system will replace traditional attendance methods and help ensure that teaching and non-teaching staff are physically present at their assigned workplaces. The initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to strengthen governance and improve the quality of education.
Along with the new attendance mechanism, the department is preparing to take action against habitually absent employees, ghost workers, and individuals found using fake academic degrees. Authorities believe the technology will improve accountability and prevent attendance fraud.
According to departmental sources, nearly 15,000 teachers and other education employees have applied for early retirement. The large number of applications has created administrative and financial challenges, prompting officials to review staffing requirements and future recruitment plans.

At the same time, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is continuing to verify the academic degrees submitted by employees recruited in the Sindh Education Department between 1989 and 2020. The verification process is intended to identify forged qualifications and ensure that only eligible employees remain in service.
Education officials say digital reforms, including facial recognition technology, are expected to improve workforce management, strengthen discipline, and enhance public confidence in the province’s education system. The government is also focusing on increasing transparency through the use of technology in schools and educational institutions.
The latest initiative reflects the Sindh government’s push toward digital governance, with officials expecting the new attendance system to play a key role in ensuring better performance, efficient monitoring, and improved delivery of education services across the province.
