The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has upgraded nine government schools in Islamabad Capital Territory to the higher secondary level, allowing students to continue their education up to Class 12 within these institutions.
The upgraded schools will operate as Islamabad Model Colleges from the 2026-27 academic session. The decision is expected to increase access to intermediate education, particularly for students who previously had to travel farther to attend college.
The institutions will offer different Intermediate programs, including Inter Tech, ICS, FA and FSc, depending on the school. The expansion also places greater emphasis on technical education and computer studies.
Among the upgraded boys’ institutions are schools in G-10/3, I-14, Chattar, G-9/1, Golra and Tarlai. Their new programs will include technical education, ICS, FA and FSc.
Three girls’ institutions have also been included in the expansion. These are located in Sangjani, Pind Malkan and NHC, with programs including Inter Tech, FA and ICS.
The move is particularly important for students interested in technical and computer-related education. FDE’s current 2026-27 prospectus also shows a wider focus on practical technical programs across its institutions, including areas such as industrial electrician, plumbing, solar water heating, data coding and graphic designing.

The upgraded institutions will therefore give students more opportunities to pursue career-oriented intermediate education without immediately moving to another college after matriculation.
Students and parents should check announcements from FDE and the relevant Islamabad Model College for admission schedules, available seats, subject combinations, and eligibility requirements. Program availability can differ from one institution to another.
The expansion represents another step toward strengthening public-sector higher secondary education in Islamabad and providing students with wider academic and technical pathways after completing matriculation.
