The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore has issued a detailed clarification regarding recent disciplinary actions taken against students, rejecting claims that the measures were linked to students expressing criticism or disagreement with the university administration. Officials said every case was handled independently and decided only after a thorough review of available evidence.
According to the university, all disciplinary matters were examined by the relevant committees under the institution’s student discipline regulations. The review process included CCTV footage, witness statements, written explanations submitted by students, and social media records wherever applicable. The university stressed that no action was taken without following the prescribed procedures.
UET Lahore stated that during the last 21 months, a total of 43 students were investigated in separate disciplinary cases involving different incidents. Following the inquiries, 9 students were expelled, 13 were suspended for one semester, and 14 received financial penalties, while 7 students were cleared after the committees found insufficient evidence against them.
The university emphasized that every student was given an opportunity to present their defense before a final decision was made. It added that students who disagree with disciplinary decisions have the right to file an appeal before the University Appellate Committee, which independently reviews such cases.

Officials also addressed reports regarding disciplinary action against hostel residents, clarifying that those cases were related solely to violations of hostel accommodation rules. The university rejected suggestions that the actions were connected to students’ political views, academic opinions, or participation in peaceful discussions.
Reaffirming its commitment to academic freedom, UET Lahore said it encourages respectful dialogue, constructive criticism, and responsible expression of opinions. However, it maintained that strict action will continue against conduct involving violence, harassment, intimidation, vandalism, disruption of academic activities, or the spread of misinformation, as such behavior affects the learning environment and campus safety.
The university further noted that maintaining discipline is essential for ensuring a secure and productive educational atmosphere for thousands of students studying across its campuses. It added that disciplinary policies are applied under established university rules and are intended to protect the rights of all members of the academic community.
With the clarification, UET Lahore aims to address public concerns and reaffirm that disciplinary decisions are based on documented evidence, due process, and institutional regulations, rather than students’ personal opinions or lawful expression. The university reiterated its commitment to transparency, fairness, and maintaining a balanced academic environment where students can learn and express themselves responsibly.
