Punjab Introduces Dedicated Religious Education for Minority Students in Major Curriculum Reform

Punjab has approved a landmark education reform by introducing a separate religious curriculum for non-Muslim students, ensuring that children from minority communities receive education according to their own beliefs. The move is being hailed as an important step toward inclusive education, religious freedom, and equal learning opportunities across the province.

The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) has finalized and approved a series of textbooks designed specifically for students belonging to different religious communities. The new curriculum will be implemented in schools across Punjab, allowing minority students to study subjects directly related to their faith traditions rather than following a general alternative curriculum.

In addition, separate curricula have been approved for Buddhist and Zoroastrian students, expanding educational representation for minority faiths in the province.

Education officials say the initiative reflects Punjab’s commitment to creating a more inclusive learning environment where students can better understand their own religious values, traditions, and cultural heritage.
